Meet the Artists in Residence

Bella is an abstract artist and poet inspired by Cornwall’s rugged coastline and ever-changing sea. Through bold mixed-media work, paint, and poetry, she explores themes of nature, emotion, and human connection.
Her pieces are layered with texture, movement, and hidden details, reflecting the beauty of the tides, marine life, and washed-ashore treasures that shape her creative practice. Rooted in Cornwall’s coastal landscape, Bella’s work invites others to see the natural world with curiosity, wonder, and a deeper sense of connection.

Ian is an abstract 'outsider artist' and former NHS specialist clinician who strongly believes in art and creativity as a route to improved health and wellbeing, interpersonal connection and social cohesion.
They support the concept of ‘art for all’ free from commercialism, rigid standards and elitism and have a particular interest in ancient concepts of art that focus on work of a human scale that can be integrated into everyday life. Ian coordinates the ‘Portable Art Collective’ in collaboration with other outsider artists and YAC volunteers.
Ian is a registered disabled person due to a combination or congenital and chronic conditions and as such supports the work of a number of self-advocacy groups to improve understanding and acceptance of complex needs across all sections of the local community.
As a long-standing member of the LGBTQI+ community Ian provides specialist advice related to mental health, neurodivergence and support strategies to a cross section of local organisations that support the gay and trans population of Cornwall.
Ians role as Associate Director at Youth Art Connect is to provide advice and support to the organisation regarding mental health and associated issues. They also provide individualised structured supervision support for volunteers and other personnel in addition to providing direct input for various creative offers,
“I kept getting images and sayings that would come up during a session and they have been morphing into artworks. I can’t say thank you enough for unlocking and helping those things to come out.”
